Barclays Wealth & Investment Banking
Barclays Charles River Anywhere (CRA) was and intricate and complex union of three completely separate systems to manage clients wealth and investment portfolios. It had become an over encumbering behemoth from a previous age that was in need of evolving to become relevant in a very completive segments (Wealth and Investment Banking).

Through user research directly with the private bankers and in some cases their clients I identified what was redundant and what was required across all three systems and created basic prototypes that evolved into detailed, granular wireframes covering layout, UI and interactions. This proved invaluable in gaining stakeholder buy-in to invest heavily in backend database migration and integration and creating a completely new front end that has revolutionized Wealth management at Barclays and more importantly their customers.
During the visual design phase of the project, I worked closely with development to identify areas where the backend could improve as well as where changes to the front end and user experience would prove beneficial. Throughout this project phase, I held regular workshops with the users to ensure the changes being made were well-informed and improved the user experience.
During development, I was part of every sprint to ensure design integrity and continued to hold regular research workshops to observe how users interacted with the live development build using real data. This led to further improvements for both the front and back end.
The final result has proven a revolutionary change for Wealth and Investment Banking for Barclays CRA and for the first time, private bankers can visit clients using CRA on tablets, freeing them from the confines of the office and forcing clients to come to Barclays.
What’s equally impressive is the choice of a futureproof low-code platform as the foundation of this system. This strategic decision ensures scalability and adaptability in the face of evolving technological landscapes. As technology continues to evolve, the housing management system remains poised to embrace change seamlessly, safeguarding the council’s investment in innovation for years to come.
In conclusion, my collaboration with the London Borough of Redbridge is a remarkable case study in the potential of digital transformation to revolutionize local government operations. Through a visionary approach, the partnership not only revitalized an ageing housing management system but also set a precedent for user-focused design, sustainability, and scalability. As other councils look toward a more efficient and effective future, they can draw inspiration from this success story and embark on their own journeys of transformation.
